Sherrie and I ended up at Streets of New York in Fountain Hills twice this week, with our dog both times, which tells you most of what you need to know. The restaurant recently moved to a new spot right on Fountain Park, and the view from the patio alone makes it worth the trip. Add a solid menu of pizza, subs and Italian comfort food with lunch specials that are hard to beat, and it has quickly become one of our easy go-to spots in town.
The new location has both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside, it’s an open, relaxed room built around a center bar, with a few TVs showing sports, so it works just as well for catching a game as for a casual dinner.
The patio is the real star, though. It’s pet-friendly and looks out over Fountain Park and the famous fountain, which goes off every hour for about 15 minutes. Sitting out there with our dog and watching the fountain go up is a beautiful view and a very Fountain Hills experience.
The menu covers pizza, sub sandwiches, salads, lasagna, pastas and soups. Over our two visits we tried a couple of their specials:
Our server was friendly and even remembered our dog’s name on our second visit. That kind of personal touch is what makes a place feel like a neighborhood spot, and it’s a big reason we came back.
The lunch specials are where the real value is. The half sandwich with a salad or soup is listed at $9.50 on their menu, and the slice with four wings is $8.75, and both gave us plenty of food. The regular menu is moderately priced for a sit-down Italian spot: most subs run around $15 to $16, pastas like Lorrie’s Lasagna ($17.25) and Chicken Parmigiana ($18) are in the high teens, and a 14-inch cheese pizza starts at $16. So it’s a bargain at lunch and fairly priced for dinner.
Streets of New York in Fountain Hills is a relaxed, fairly priced spot with good pizza, subs and salads and one of the best patio views in town. It’s a great pick for a casual lunch or dinner, for families, for catching a game at the bar, or for an evening on the patio with your dog watching the fountain. We enjoyed both visits and will definitely be back.
