Happy Hour. The elusive time at your favorite watering hole that you frequently miss by ten minutes and spend the rest of your day filled with sadness, regret, and full-priced drinks. Or you go somewhere that advertises “All-day happy hour” only to realize their version of “happy” is fifty cents off well drinks only or a half-order of wings at half-price. I’m getting UNhappy just thinking about it. Why should it be like that? Why can’t every hour be a genuinely happy hour with generously discounted drinks and possibly some tasty food as well?
My friends, I am here to tell you there are places where these dreams are a reality. Throughout Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe, there are restaurants and bars that will cater to your hankering for cheap eats and a stiff drink at all different hours that won’t break the bank. We will visit a few of these restaurants and break it down based on the time you’re looking for.

Finding a Sunday happy hour is doubly sweet. It’s “Sunday Funday”, so you’re already out having fun, then you get the added bonus of saving some simoleons? Sign me up.

Salut Kitchen Bar

Rarely do I find myself south of the 202, but when I do it is usually on a Sunday, and I almost always end up at Salut Kitchen Bar on University Drive in Tempe, east of Scottsdale Road. The happy hour at Salut is seven days a week, from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Salut is one of those places you stop for “one”… and next thing you know, you’ve had “one” glass of wine at $2 off, then “one” bottle at 50% off, “one” order of mac and cheese bites and “one” Caprese salad – both of which are also on happy hour (all tapas are $2 off). So, sure you’ve had “one”. Now it’s three hours later, you’ve missed the start of your show at Gammage Auditorium, and you don’t really care all that much. (True story.)

Geisha A Go Go

Where I do find myself frequently on Sundays is Old Town/Downtown Scottsdale. There are so many choices in a small radius that you’re bound to find a good time somewhere. One of my favorite spots, since I can remember, is Geisha A Go Go on 6th Ave just off Scottsdale Road. On Sundays, Geisha extends their regular happy hour to an all-day affair. They offer half off appetizers, house sushi rolls, sake bombers, their specialty drinks and more. Basically, if you pay attention to what you’re ordering, you can eat and drink for half price all day.

If you’re in Old Town and in the mood for fresh Italian food, Evo offers happy hour every day from 4 pm to 7 pm. The Evo happy hour is popular with ScottsdaleRestaurants.com and previously highlighted here, but I had to include it again since they are awesome enough to give you three hours of it every darn day.

It was a long day at work. We get it. (We know you were off today, but we’re just letting you go with it.) Now time to relax and enjoy some good food and drink on the cheap. Cheers!

Arena Sports Grill

Though not as centrally located as many of the other choices, Arena Sports Grill on Bell Rd just west of 64th Street has one of the best late-night happy hours going. From 10 pm to 2 am every night, Arena features $4 “U-call-its” on all beverages. I can’t emphasize what a great deal this is if you enjoy high-end liquors or even good beer. The liquor and beer selection at Arena Sports Grill is a good one, and although there will be a $2 upcharge for martinis or drinks with a three-ounce pour, you’re still getting some great value. Also, when you go, ask about their “shift drink” promotion. You’ll thank me for that.*
*Arena Sports Grill is currently renovating and will be closed for most of the summer. Their Facebook page and website will announce their re-opening dates.

Delux Burger

After going to a Suns game or seeing a concert downtown, one of my first choices for sustenance is Delux Burger on 32nd Street & Camelback. In addition to having some of the best burgers in Phoenix, they have sushi, a kitchen that stays open until 2 am and, you guessed it, a sweet reverse happy hour.
The main late-night happy hour menu at Delux includes well cocktails and premium draft beers ($4) as well as their “house” brew ($3) and house wines by the glass ($5). They offer a few different salads and bite-size items from the grill as well. They offer these items 10 pm to 2 am every night.
The late sushi happy hour includes basic nigiri, maki, and sashimi with a couple of vegetarian rolls also available. The happy hour for sushi varies somewhat from the rest of the happy hour menu. It is available 10 pm to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 10 pm to 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

No judging, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. What do you mean how do I even know about these? You hush.

The only restaurant that appears on both the Early Week Deals and this list, every Postino location offers $5 pitchers of beer – that’s pitcher, not glass or pint – and $5 for ANY wine by the glass from open (11 am) to 5 pm. The early start time gives you plenty of time for day drinking and enjoying the relaxing vibe that Postino is known for. It’s hard to believe that Postino has been around for 15 years now, with their flagship location in Arcadia (40th Street & Campbell) laying the groundwork for numerous other locations. With the increasing number of Postino’s now open throughout Phoenix, Scottsdale and beyond, you’re likely never far from one of their locations, making it even easier to take advantage of their happy hour.

The Main Ingredient Ale House & Cafe

Located in midtown Phoenix on 7th Street (in between Thomas & McDowell Roads), The Main Ingredient is one of a handful of locally-owned spots helping to reinvigorate that area. From 11 am to 6 pm (and all day Monday, closed Sundays), “T.M.I.” offers $2 off all beers on tap (a well-rounded selection of craft choices), all well drinks as well as their house wines (Alias) by the glass. They also discount their specialty cocktails by $4.
There you have it. For almost any hour of any day, ScottsdaleRestaurants.com has once again provided you with the key to happiness. If you need more help finding your “happy” place, don’t forget our Happy Hour Live list!
