Culinary Dropout’s Gilbert location is at 383 N Gilbert Rd in the Heritage District, in a converted industrial building that used to be a citrus packing plant. It’s part of The Yard, with a covered patio and lawn games out back. It’s loud and fun, with comfort food and live music, and it works for most occasions short of a quiet dinner.
The covered patio has ping pong, cornhole and foosball, and local bands play live. It’s big enough for groups, and there’s a group dining program if you’re planning a party. Self-parking is available, and valet is free on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
The menu is all over the place in a good way. The two dishes the restaurant itself is known for are the soft pretzels with provolone fondue and the slow-braised 36-hour pork ribs. Beyond that there are starters like BBQ pork belly nachos, white truffle deviled eggs, crispy Brussels sprouts and house potato chips with onion dip, a short sushi list, salads like the chopped chicken, sandwiches including a shaved prime rib dip, and entrées such as steak frites and meatloaf. Weekend brunch adds fried chicken and biscuits, a breakfast burrito and monkey bread.
Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to midnight, Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and happy hour is Monday through Friday, 3 to 6 p.m.
Friends, birthday groups and weekend brunch crowds. Get there at happy hour for the pretzels and a spot on the patio. If you know the Scottsdale location (see our Culinary Dropout Scottsdale review), Gilbert has the same menu idea with more outdoor space.
